Mesa Rug Hookers 2011 Christmas party - Arizona sharing

Our Mesa Rug Hookers had decided to each bring their favorite Christmas dessert to share along with their Christmas themed rugs or other fiber projects to make the room very festive for our 2011 Christmas party. Below are photos of some of the items they brought to share:

 

And you will recall that I had previously mentioned the sharing of desserts. Well, we had plenty that were shared and enjoyed by all and that prompted my recommendation for the following:

Yes, these are the best jeans I have found in a long time and they have a BIAS-CUT waistband that doesn't leave a mark around your tummy by the end of the day. I believe they are available at several retailers, but I found mine at K-mart of all places for 24.99.

I believe you can also order them online with free shipping as well. Yep. Lee Riders Slender Stretch are available in denim wash, black wash, and khaki.

Hey, but if you catch them this week...they are on sale for 20% off, and to me, at least, well worth the money. They give you a great shape and nice caboose without being tight or binding and they don't shrink up small when you wash them. At last. A pair I can wear.

Wild and Wooly Christmas Party and rug hookers focus

Rug Hookers are a very focused group.

First , there is the wool.

And then, even more wool.

And after that, even more wool still.

We even have a very definite focused posture

for our work, as Jane is demonstrating in the

photo.

Please note the time on the clock where everyone is in the

pot luck buffet line. Like I said. Focused.

And while in the buffet line.....everyone stays in the

rug hookers position.    Always focused.

We do know how to keep our priorities straight you know.

After lunch, we had our gift exchange with way too many

fabulous things....we , of course, had all been good girls

and Santa had been very generous.

And then , of course, it was back to the focus.

Do you challenge yourself as a rug hooker?

    One of the comments that I frequently hear in rug classes is with regard to finishing projects. I think that once class is over and the wool is put away and your rug is rolled up and in the closet, it is very easy (for many) to not touch it again for many months or years. I think this is a big mistake, for in that span of time you really lose your psychological place.....your mojo, your thought process, your direction or purpose. I also think it is a big mistake to start a rug that you do not know what its ultimate purpose will be....those are ones that end up staying rolled up in the closet.

    I have kept myself on a fairly tight leash when I re-started rug hooking again about 3 yrs ago after a long absence and have been good about finishing what I start and not having a closet cluttered with dozens of unfinished rolled up rugs. My rugs are all either displayed or on the floor or have gone to homes where they were special appreciated gifts. My current project, destined to be in my dining room, is a pattern from Susan Quicksall called Crazy Horse Quilt. All the motifs are outlined and are actually laying on top of a background of paisley fabric. I am in the home stretch of having this rug completed. It has been the most difficult one that I have done to date, and I imagine there may be many of these rolled up in closets because it is a rug that can challenge even the most skilled of hookers. I have not decided if I will do the lamb's tongue border or change it to something a bit less busy since I have used colors that are so strong.
